London: People are very conscious about the news that the United States, Russia, China and Australia are all considering withdrawing their swimming teams from the London Olympics which has brought a threat from the International Olympic Council (I.O.C) President Jacques Rogge that the boycott will seriously damage London’s 2012 Olympics.

According to available reports cause for the threat is the announcement from British water companies warning that with the serious state of low water supplies in the UK, as a result supply of enough water to fill the Olympic sized pools cannot be guaranteed and it is possible pools may be only half filled. The result being considered is that all divers participating in the Games would need, for safety reasons, to dive from lower boards.

The potential crisis has now reached a farcical point as it is reported that Lord Sebastian Coe is in talks with the French mineral water company, Evian, to supply sufficient mineral water to fill the London Olympic pools. The thought that London will have to rely on the French to save our swimming events is a cause of considerable embarrassment for Mr. Cameron and the coalition government.
