Baldwin, Louisiana: An investigation of the death of a 33-year-old man is under way who was allegedly shot dead by a city police officer he was reportedly escaped custody.

However, the identity of the victim has not been disclosed yet, AP quoted State police spokesman Stephen Hammons as saying.

Hammons says Police Chief Gerald Minor asked state police to step in Friday morning, hours after the man was arrested on unspecified outstanding warrants. The Advocate reports the man escaped and was shot by an officer equipped with a Taser stun gun.

Hammons says officers called emergency personnel. The officials shifted the victim to Franklin Foundation Hospital before being transferred to Lafayette General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
